• Innovative in Civil Engineering for Society and the Environment
    Vol 1 No 1 (2013)

    Past EACEF conferences have provided a warm and friendly forum for the exchange of ideas between Civil Engineering academics in East Asia and their peers in Europe. EACEF sessions are characterized by lively exchange of ideas and warm camaraderie. The 4th EACEF 2013 convene in the vibrant city of Singapore.

    The theme of the conference, 'Innovations in Civil Engineering for Society and the Environment' reflects the central role of civil engineers discipline in creating technologically-based systems for the benefit of society, as well as the need in current times, for innovative thinking to deliver better value and protecting the environment through such engineered systems.

    The organizing committee invites submissions of one page abstracts (maximum of 500 words) describing original work on innovations and new developments in the following civil engineering subdisciplines:

    • Structural and construction engineering
    • Geotechnical engineering
    • Civil engineering materials
    • Environmental engineering
    • Infrastructure engineering - transportation, traffic, coastal, offshore, water resources and hydraulic engineering
    • Construction, project and safety management.

    Participation and contributions from industry practitioners are especially encourage.

    The issue of development and sustainability is foremost on the agenda of many nations. As educators, we should examine how this issue can best be addressed in our programs that train future civil engineering professionals. The Singapore edition of EACEF was organizing a special session on ‘Incorporating sustainability in civil engineering education’ - comprising invited talks, position papers by delegates and a forum discussion among educators, practitioners and industry - to share views and experiences on innovating changes to address sustainability in civil engineering practice and education.

  • Designing and Constructing in Sustainability

    This report is consisted of three activities, joint cooperation between Universitas Atma Jaya Yogyakarta (UAJY), Universitas Pelita Harapan (UPH), University of Stuttgart, University of Kassel, supported by DAAD through Grant for Alumni Events.

    The committee has been also supported by The Ministry of Public Works of Republic of Indonesia and The Embassy of Federal Republic of Germany.

    The main theme of the conference is:

    Designing and Constructing in Sustainability

    The Scientific Committee has accepted 131 scientific papers from 20 countries. 91 papers were presented in 4 Plenary Sessions and 8 parallel technical sessions. They were divided into five groups, as such:

    1. Structural and Construction Engineering
    2. Construction Management and Project Management
    3. Infrastructure (environmental, coastal, transportation, water) Engineering
    4. Geotechnical Engineering
    5. Building Materials Engineering (Nanotechnology)
