FULL SCALE EXPERIMENTS OF THREE REINFORCED CONCRETE BEAMS TO DEVELOP SHEAR DESIGN OF THE BEAMS WITH MEDIUM AND LARGE OPENINGS

Abstract

 This experiment deals with the shear design of various beams with medium and large opening. The application of the strut-and-tie model in the design of beam with opening will be demonstrated and tested later on. Three beams with various opening were made and loaded until their failure. Test results showed that the ultimate loads exceeded for two beams. The beam with recess had lower ultimate load, because of the failure of the anchorage of the tie and lead to a sudden and non ductile. The objective of the research is to find the method of shear design for beams with medium and large opening based on Strut-and-Tie Model.
