COMPARISON OF THE NEW ZIPPER BRACE SYSTEM BEHAVIOR WITH INVERTED V-BRACE IN ELASTIC ZONE IN SIMPLE STEEL FRAMES USING THE FINITE ELEMENT METHOD

Abstract

In weak earthquakes and under insignificant or medium lateral loads, which don’t cause buckling of compressive elements, the potential capabilities of Zipper braces will not act. Thus the comparison of the behavior of this system with traditional Inverted V brace in elastic zone must be performed, in order not to have any negative effects on structural response. In this paper the behavior of structures with different heights ( 3 , 8 and 25 stories) in elastic zone are compared based on all recommendations of standard no. 2800 and AISC code [1] while changing the bracing type from Inverted V to Zipper brace using the finite element method.
