PARALLELISATION of MULTIPLE ANT COLONIES USING MASTER-SLAVE APPROACH for STRUCTURAL OPTIMISATION
A study has been carried out on parallelisation of Multiple Ant Colonies (MAC) for discrete structural optimisation using Master-Slave (MS) approach. Two types of communication schemes are used for updating the global pheromone trails maintained in the master processor. Using these two communication schemes, a comparative study has also been made on the performance of MAC. Experimental results in terms of solution quality, functional evaluation and computational time based on a well known sizing optimisation of a 25-bar space truss are found to be intuitively superior to the existing approaches.
