An INVESTIGATION in MECHANICAL PROPERTY and WORKABILITY of LIGHTWEIGHT MORTAR with VARIOUS PERCENTAGES of SCORIA INSTEAD of SAND

Abstract

In this paper the mechanical property and workability of different lightweight mortar made with 0 , 20 , 40 , 60 , 80 and 100 percents of scoria instead of sand and constant water-cement ratio and cement content for 120 sample has been studied. Constant water-cement ratio and cement content has extracted from the best results of 288 sample lightweight concrete with different water-cement ratios and cement content .The results indicate that with 100% of scoria instead of sand in the mixture , compressive strength , tensile strength and density respectively 10% , 16.5% and 18.2 have been reduced. Also due to more water absorption of scoria, the mortar and concrete need more water-cement ratio for a suitable workability.
