THE PERFORMANCE of ASPHALT MIX CONTAINING SLAG AGGREGATES for HEAVY TRAFFICKED ROADS

Abstract

This study evaluates the performance of asphalt mixes containing slag aggregates for road pavement which consist of laboratory and field study. The field trial in Cileunyi Road has a traffic density more than one million ESA. The trial test consists of two types of asphalt mixes. Mix 1 consist of coarse and medium slag aggregate mixing to fine standard aggregate and Mix 2 consist of coarse, medium and fine slag aggregate mixing to sand. Mix 1 was placing on slow lane that expected to be able to resists rutting. Mix 2 was placing on fast lane that expect be loaded by heavy vehicle within a short time. FWD test is conducted after six months, the result indicates that modulus of the Mix 1 was harder than Mix 2, and both mixes have the same rutting results. The skid resistance of this pavement was higher than the existing pavement.
