BUCKLING BEHAVIOUR of MEMBERS with INTERMEDIATE DISCRETE LATERAL RESTRAINTS UNDER BENDING and AXIAL COMPRESSION
The effects of lateral restraints located just in one flange or in both flanges on the buckling behaviour of single span members are discussed. The work has been carried out by numerical simulations on the basis of a Geometrically and Materially Nonlinear Analysis with Imperfections (GMNIA). Different loading conditions as varying bending moment diagrams have been studied in connection with axial compression. Due to the section-shape of I- or H- profiles the lateral torsional buckling mode has been considered. The numerical investigations are supplemented by a comparative study using the existing EUROCODE 3 – design formulae of Method 2, in order to show the efficiency of these formulae for the given design situation. The use of the coefficients derived specifically for laterally restrained beam-columns in the design formulae are shown.
